The 105th American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress marked an exciting landmark for the Society of Asian Academic Surgeons with the approval of a seat for SAAS on the Board of Governors of the ACS. This recognition of SAAS by the ACS propels our society to the ranks of other more well-established specialty societies, such as the American Surgical Association, the Society of Surgical Oncology and the Society of Black Academic Surgeons.

Congratulations to Dr. Kenric Murayama, chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Hawaii, for serving as the inaugural SAAS representative to the ACS Board of Governors.

Other ACS-related, noteworthy accomplishments by SAAS members include:

Dr. Don Nakayama, professor of surgery and pediatric surgeon at the University of North Carolina, was elected treasurer of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Steven Stain, professor of surgery and Henry and Sally Schaffer Chair of the Department of Surgery at Albany Medical College in New York, was elected to the ACS Board of Regents.
